Why Do We Tell Women That Beauty Has an Age?

Lately, I've seen a lot of different articles and videos about why older women shouldn't wear makeup, or that they have specific guidelines that they need to follow. I say, forget that. I work in a cosmetics store, and the other day a woman came in with full glam eyelashes on and a poppin' red lip. I found out she was 87 years old!

Of course, some women prefer a more natural look going into their retirement years, which is awesome. However, this woman taught me that you do not have to be a certain age to be in your beauty prime. I know what you're thinking, "Alex, you're 20. You're in your beauty prime." To which I say you might be correct. However, if you have a passion for cosmetics and beauty, an age limit does not exist.

Skincare Is the Key to Beautiful Skin

Of course, the best way to create flawless makeup is to have a good base. A skincare routine is the best place to start. It's never too early to start using anti-aging skincare products, and it's also never too late.

If you're looking for intense firming and lifting without the hassle of going to a plastic surgeon, a great option is the Kate Somerville Tight'N™ Cryogenic Skin Tightening Gel. This innovative formula goes on like a mousse and has an amazing crackling sensation. Press it onto the areas you would like to firm. Don't forget your décolletage! Use this product once a day to get intense, firming results over time.

Firming and lifting products such as this mixed with a good cleanser, exfoliator, serum and moisturizer will significantly improve the appearance of makeup. Go into your local Sephora location for a free consultation, and mini facial, to find your perfect skincare routine.

Full-Coverage Foundation Is Okay

If you want to use a full-coverage foundation, don't let anyone tell you that you can't. If you want full coverage and don't use the right products, you won't get the desired smooth look you want. However, using the right products will help you achieve a flawless, full-coverage look without looking heavy or cakey.

Foundation

I recommend using a hydrating foundation that has medium-to-full coverage, such as Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion, or the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk. Both of these foundations have a lightweight feel to them as well as a smoothing effect on the skin.

Concealer

Use a concealer with antioxidant ingredients and moisturizing properties. Too Faced Born This Way concealer is amazing for hydration. It has coconut water in it to help smooth the skin as well as moisturize. It's also formulated with hyaluronic acid, which essentially attracts moisture into the skin and penetrates it deep into the epidermal layer.

Setting Powder

Setting your foundation is essential for making it stay all day. Make sure you set it lightly using a fluffy brush with a hydrating and luminizing setting powder. Hourglass has recently come out with an amazing option. It has a radiant finish and will beautifully set makeup so that it doesn't crease throughout the day.

If you're more into a pressed setting powder, try the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders. They are like a filter for the skin that will add dimension, luminosity and extends the wear of the foundation underneath without looking like you're wearing too much powder.

Let's Talk About Mature Eyes

As for eyes, you are allowed to use any colour and finish your heart desires. You can use shimmers, mattes, glitters and more. Just make sure that you use certain placement methods according to your eye shape to enhance your eyes as much as possible to make those peepers poppin'!

Make sure you find tutorials that focus on lifting and elongating the eye. It's easy to mistakenly use an eye-makeup technique that will drag down the eye if you're not careful.

Enhance Your Lips Without Feathering

Lips are the most amazing part of a look. You can use subtle but effective techniques to help make the lips appear more plump and full. I would recommend using a hydrating lipstick such as the Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipsticks. Jam-packed with essential omega oils, they're moisturizing and they come in many different shades. If you have a Bite Beauty Lab near you, you can even go in and create your perfect shade by hand alongside one of the Bite Beauty Lab technicians!

A great tip for keeping your lipstick from feathering into the fine lines around your lips is to use a lip liner all over your lips. You can slightly overdraw if you'd like to make the lips appear bigger. Make sure your lipstick is the same shade as the lip liner to ensure beautifully blended lips that won't enhance any wrinkles around your mouth.

Every Age Is Beautiful

Well, there you have it. No matter what your age, you can still be in your beauty prime. Whatever you do, don't conform to the typical beauty standards for mature women. Use whatever products you want, and wear what you want. At the end of the day, all that matters is that you're happy and comfortable in your own skin.
