It is often difficult to find a moisturizer that works well for dry and sensitive skin. Dry skin is often difficult to remedy and sensitive skin can prove to be very temperamental. This is the type of skin I have and it can prove to be a challenging combination. The Mario Badescu Kera Moisturizer claims to be formulated for those with dry and sensitive skin. The moisturizer also claims to reduce irritation and redness with Keratoplast, as well as soothe the skin with Oatmeal. Overall, I have found all of these claims to be true.

Background: My Skin Type and Experience

Knowing some background about my skin and my experiences with moisturizers will hopefully assist you when reading my review and will help you decide whether the Kera Moisturizer is right for you. My skin is extremely dry and is often flaky, even after exfoliating. Additionally, my skin breaks out and is irritated very easily. Whenever a product has fragrance in it, it almost instantly causes my face to break out in a very uncomfortable rash.

The Kera Moisturizer Combats Dry, Sensitive Skin

Out of all of the moisturizers I have tried, this moisturizer has definitely worked the best for my skin type. A few of the other moisturizers I have tried have included the Cetaphil Moisturizing cream for dry, sensitive skin and the Ponds Dry Skin Cream. The Cetaphil moisturizer, though hydrating, caused me to break out. I had the same experience with the Ponds moisturizer. However, the Kera Moisturizer has caused none of these negative effects.

Review

I currently use the Kera Moisturizer after I have cleansed my face at night, but I am sure it would also work well under makeup. The texture of this moisturizer is not heavy. It is more on the thin side, and is rather lightweight.

Application

It glides over the skin very easily. Very little product is needed to cover the entire face. I only use about a dime-sized amount every night. It does not sink in extremely quickly, but it does not take extremely long either. It takes a little bit longer to sink in than most moisturizers I have used in the past.

Texture and Scent

I am impressed with how gentle and calming this moisturizer is on my skin. It produces no irritation. The moisturizer does not have fragrance listed in the ingredients, but it does have a scent. The scent reminds me of oatmeal, but it is not very strong. The scent does not bother me, though it might bother some people. I would recommend smelling this moisturizer in the store before purchasing it.

Cost Efficiency

The Kera Moisturizer is $20.00 for 2 ounces of product. At first, I was very hesitant to purchase this product because I was concerned that it was way too much money for a moisturizer. However, I am glad that I purchased this product.

Quality

This product is not made up of a very long list of unnatural products and chemicals. Additionally, it does not contain ingredients that will clog pores. For example, though the Cetaphil moisturizer is less expensive and claims to be non-comedogenic, it ended up clogging my pores. I believe that sometimes it is better to purchase a more expensive product with quality ingredients rather than purchasing many less expensive products that end up not working well.

Results of the Kera Moisturizer

I decided to try the Kera Moisturizer because of its claim to be very hydrating for those with dry skin, and because of its ingredients that are not comedogenic. I tend to have breakouts constantly, and since using this moisturizer, I have experienced fewer breakouts, less redness in my skin, and virtually no dry, flaky skin. My only complaint is that it takes somewhat longer to sink into the skin and the formula is relatively thinner than I would like it to be. All in all, my skin has done a complete turnaround, and I could not be happier with how this product is working for me. My skin definitely feels healthier and more hydrated as a result of using this product.

Final Verdict

In the end, when I purchase several less expensive products that I know are less likely to work, I often waste more money than if I would have just purchased the more expensive product. Of course, this is not always the case with every product, but it proved to be true in this situation. Since I have so much trouble with sensitive skin and dryness, I am more than happy with the Kera Moisturizer. Additionally, I believe this product will last me a long time.
