How to Create the Perfect Winged Eyeliner

After a lot of trial and error, Crystal finally figured out how to draw eyeliner without tape or assistance of any sort.

Getting Started!

Creating the perfect winged eyeliner can be very difficult if you don't know what you are doing. I have been teaching myself since I was young, and I've just recently stopped using tape to create my line and can now free hand it. I am going to break winged eyeliner down and make it as simple as possible. This look is perfect for a date or a night out on the town. It's dramatic but not over the top! Let's get started. For this look, you will need liquid eyeliner of your preference.

Easy Peasy

Follow your natural eye shape and draw a line that works with that.

1. Follow Your Natural Eye Shape

Start by applying your desired eyeshadow. Step one is the basic foundation of your wing. Some of the best advice I have ever received was: always follow the shape of your eye. Starting from the outside corner of your eye take your liquid eyeliner and follow the natural shape of your eye going out and up as shown in the picture above. Try not to make the line go straight up or straight out it is not a flattering look for anyone. If you have trouble with this step, you can take a piece of tape and follow that line on your face.

2. Bring It Back In

Now you are going to make another line creating the outline of your wing. You are going to begin at ALMOST the tip for your first line and bring it in to about the middle of your eyelid, creating a sharp, pretty wing outline.

3. Connecting to Your Inner Corner

Step Three is pretty simple and probably the easiest step. You are going to take your liner and connect a simple, thin line from your wing to the inner corner of your eye. Careful not to get eyeliner in your eye! Also, remember you can always add more liner if you are not happy with how it turns out. It's much harder to take liner way so always start small and build on that slowly.

4. Fill in the Blanks

Step four is last but certainly not least! For the last step, you are carefully going to color in your wing with your liquid liner. Be careful not to color outside your wing so go slow. If you do make a small mistake, you can go in with some concealer of your choice and clean up your line!

Let's Finish This Look Up!

Now that you have finished your amazing winged eyeliner you can clean up your wing with a little concealer carefully to make you wing super sharp. Another thing you can do to enhance to this beautiful look is to add a little mascara and a pair of false lashes to make it a little more dramatic but not crazy and over-the-top!

I noticed this is your first article! I recently just joined as well :)! Loved your article, I struggle with getting my eyeliner to look good, so I completely gave up doing my eyeliner. I'm going to have to give this a try and use your steps!
