What's the Best Anti-Aging Skin Care Treatment?

After menopause, the collagen in the skin softens and skin tends to lose its tone. As a result, frown and smile lines form, the skin starts to droop under the chin and eyes, and wrinkles form. In addition, age spots—those small brown freckle-like marks caused by clumps of pigment under the skin—often appear. This is the time when accumulated damage from life-long exposure to the sun and weather, as well as lifestyle influences including diet, rest, stress, and environmental toxins, becomes apparent. What is the best anti-aging skin care treatment to help keep aging skin youthful longer?

A Healthy Lifestyle Supports Anti-Aging Skin Care Products

Beauty starts from the inside out, so any products you choose are more effective when supported by a healthy lifestyle that includes a nutritious diet with at least eight glasses of water daily, sufficient sleep, and effective management of stress. A regular yoga practice that gently turns the body upside town to reverse the effects of gravity is also an important factor.

Anti-Wrinkle Serum

My favourite anti-wrinkle serum is Isadermix Antioxidant C Serum with CoQ10. Its active ingredient, co-enzyme Q10, has been the subject of much experimentation lately. In a study published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, recent research by Bryan Fuller and his team at Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Oklahoma Health Science Center, concludes that CoQ10 helps reduce inflammation and damage to skin as a result of exposure to UV radiation and sunlight (2006).

After cleansing your face at night, pump a dime-sized amount or less of the serum into your hand, and massage it into your face, neck and decolletage area, avoiding the eyes. The texture of the serum is slightly oily, and I find it works well as a massage oil. I usually use a massage technique like this one, before leaving the serum to work overnight.

I love the feel of a gentle facial massage with this anti-oxidant rich serum, which stays on all night.

Anti-Wrinkle Eye Creams

The tissue around the eyes is delicate and easily irritated, and needs particular attention. Since I have been using the Isadermix Age-Defying Eye Cream, I have noticed the crow's feet at the corners of my eyes less defined, the pouches under my eyes less puffy, and a glowing, toned look to my eyes. After massaging the face with the CoQ10 serum, pump a pea-sized amount of Eye Cream into the palm, and apply it gently to the lid area, under the eye, and the skin around the eye orbit. Then leave it on overnight.

Aging Skin Care Poducts for Moisturizing

It is crucial to drink at least eight glasses of water daily to moisturize the cells inside the body and in the skin, and keep healthy blood chemistry so the body's inner cleansing and nutritional system can work. It is also important to moisturize the skin from the outside to counteract the effects of weather and water loss through the skin. For this I use two moisturizers, one for the face and one for the body-- especially my legs and feet, which I find easily get dry and itchy if I neglect them.

The facial moisturizer I love best is Isadermix Intensive Renewal Night Cream for the face. I find a small amount of these Isadermix products go a long way, so only a dime-sized pump or even less is more than enough to spread lightly over the face, neck and upper chest. Apply it after the Antioxidant CoQ10 Serum has had a chance to work into the skin for about five minutes, and leave it on overnight.

For the body moisturizer, I use Body Butter by The Body Shop. There is a wide choice of light and non-invasive fragrances, based on tropical woods and fruits, such as tangerine, coconut, and—my favourite—cocoa butter. These body butters are not greasy, absorb quickly into the skin, and keep the skin feeling soft and moist for a long time.

Cuticle Cream for Nail Care

Although I occasionally splurge and have a professional manicure, most of the time I take care of my own hands and nails. I buff the nails with Seacret, a gentle moisturizer that includes sea salt, and leaves the nails smooth and polished. After this treatment, the nails are almost as shiny as with clear nail polish, which I avoid because of the toxic effects of the nail polish remover. Afterwards, I rub an small amount of Healthy Hoof Cuticle Cream into the cuticle area, leave it to work in for two or three minutes, then roll them back and clip them with a cuticle tool. However, the Healthy Hoof is so effective in softening and loosening the cuticle, I often find I can peel off the old dead skin effortlessly, leaving the cuticle area soft, rosy and smooth.

Seacret Nail Care

Happy and Healthy

I have an active lifestyle and not much interest in spending a lot of time and money on my personal appearance, but I definitely value looking groomed, healthy, and youthful. I neither feel the need to hide my age nor look the way I did at 16, and by using these products as part of a healthy lifestyle I can look great, feel great, and stay happy.

Great article and really beneficial information! The best anti-aging cream that I have found is Lifecell skin anti aging cream. This is really amazing product and shows results within a week.

I want to try the Seacret Nail care product. I also don't like spending money on manicures, but it's hard to find a nail product that keeps nails looking healthy, without painting them with clear polish so you need remover. I dislike Nail Polish Remover as well. Sometimes Sally Hansen puts out a vitamin gel that makes nails look shiny and healthy without polish, but it's hit or miss when shopping for it. Thanks for the suggestion.

Great article loaded with really beneficial information! The best anti-aging treatment that I have found is NeriumAD. Most people who try it, love it and notice a significant improvement in their skin and reduction in the fine-lines and wrinkles.

Judi Bee, relax with your legs up the wall after work or before you sleep. That is a relaxing way to go upside down.

Judi Brown from UK on October 01, 2012:

I shall definitely spending more of my time upside down from now on ;D I tend to use whatever face cream is on offer and hope it works. Great advice!

Oh! To feel the pampering. (Like you, I don't mind the age I am, or looking older) MMMMmmmm. I do love a good face cream and your hub is wonderful and so sensible too. My California dermatologist makes me use the creams he approves of, so I'm staying with them. It is so important to use a face cream with sun protection for the day on a nice clean face - and a nutritive cream for the night at my age. I like looking groomed and having as lovely a face as I can. Voting etc.

Laura Wolfhart on July 24, 2012:

Great info! I've been using a Monsia anti-aging cream and it's been great so far. Finally getting rid of the dreaded forehead wrinkles! :) I only thing is that I can't seem to find it in regular stores, I can only get it online at beyas.ca but ah well, it's worth it :)

I've always used Oil of Olay products only because I hate shopping for skin care products. There are so many of them. After reading your great review on the Isadermix products, I'll look for these next time I'm at Shoppers Drug Mart.

Beauty does start from the inside. You really need to be careful about what you eat and drink. Well written, and easy to read. Lovely pic... that was a great choice. Have a lovely day!

Denise Mai from Idaho on May 01, 2012:

Great job, Janis. We sure do have to go through a lot of hooplah to keep our skin looking good. I love how you said you're not trying to look 16 and I really admire those photos. Where did you find that cute model? ;-)
